Description

Tholu means leather in Telugu and bommalu means dolls. This form of art is believed to have originated in 200 BC during the rule of the Satavahana dynasty. This form of craft is inextricably linked to the state’s traditional folk and cultural expression, called Tholu Bommalata. Also known as Leather puppetry, this form of shadow-puppet theatre is popular in several regions of Andhra Pradesh. These puppets are painted according to the nature of the roles with locally made natural colours. Artists use traditional tools with skilled workmanship. They design the pictures on the leather and then dye them with beautiful colours. This ancient folk art once flourished in the state, where puppeteers would narrate stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata with the help of their translucent leather puppets.

The TholuBommalata Rani Frame is a stunning piece of art that elegantly combines the traditional shadow puppet theater of Andhra Pradesh, known as Tholu Bommalata, with intricate depictions of regal figures. Handcrafted by skilled artisans, this frame features detailed designs and vibrant colors, showcasing a royal character in all her splendor. The meticulous craftsmanship highlights the rich cultural heritage of South India, making it a perfect addition to any space. With its unique blend of tradition and elegance, the TholuBommalata Rani Frame not only enhances your decor but also serves as a beautiful reminder of India’s diverse artistic legacy.
