Description

The word ‘Tikuli’ is the local term for bindi, which is a bright, colourful dot that women wear between their eyebrows. In the past, bindi was created as a symbol for worshipping intellect and conserving modesty. Tikuli art is a unique art with a rich and deep traditional history. It originated in Magadh Empire over 800 years ago. Their themes evolve around Indian festivals and wedding scenes, and Krishna Leela. Tikuli art serves as an important source of livelihood for women and empowerment for artisans.

Tikuli is made around Patliputra by rural women artisans under the mentorship of renowned the artist Mr Ashok Biswas. These coasters are a perfect cultural souvenir for dining table tops. They come in various designs of Indian village scenes and make a great collectors’ choice.
