Description
The word ‘Tikuli’ is the local term for bindi, which is a bright, colourful dot that women wear between their eyebrows. In the past, bindi was created as a symbol for worshipping intellect and conserving modesty. It originated in Magadh Empire over 800 years ago. Their themes evolve around Indian festivals and wedding scenes, and Krishna Leela. Tikuli art serves as an important source of livelihood for women and empowerment for artisans.
Tikuli is made around Patliputra by rural women artisans under the mentorship of renowned the artist Mr Ashok Biswas. These miniature paintings are perfect Indian souvenirs.
