Description
DurgaShakti is worshipped in various forms. She is a form of ‘Shakti’. The evolution of MahaSaraswati, Mahalaxmi and Mahakali (the 3 main forms of ‘Shakti’) took place from Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh respectively. Durga is depicted in the Hindu scriptures as the goddess riding a lion, with many arms each carrying a weapon, defeating Mahisasura thus called Mahisasurmardini.
DurgaShakti is carved in wood by a group of talented artists called Sutradhars (woodcarvers), inhabitants of the ravines of the Ganga belt from a village in Bengal. These artists intricately carve DurgaShakti from blocks of locally available wood (Mahogany & Mango). This piece of craft is made by the renowned artisan Mr Paritosh Bhaskar. It is the perfect Indian cultural souvenir for gifting and home decor.
